Parent Governor
Ever thought about being a Parent Governor at your child's school?
What are we looking for?
Our school Governing Board is made up of Parent, Staff and Co-opted Governors. The Governors are all volunteers who work together for the benefit of the School and are the link between the School and the community it serves. We are currently looking for one new Parent Governor and one new Co-opted Governor and would be delighted to hear from anyone who has:
• A financially trained background.
• An interest in the performance of the school.
• A desire to contribute to and represent the community.
• An open and enquiring mind.
• The ability to look at issues objectively.
• A willingness to listen and make informed judgements.
• The ability to work well with others.
What can we offer?
Being a Governor can be enjoyable, stimulating and rewarding. It provides:
• The opportunity to work with our team of Governors and staff in improving the school.
• Training - in order to develop an understanding of specific school management issues.
• The pleasure of helping children reach their potential.
What is the Governing Board’s Role?
The Governing Board has three main functions:
· Holding to account – we are responsible for holding the Headteacher and Senior Leaders to account for the quality of teaching and learning and levels of achievement.
· Supporting the school – in order to provide the best education and opportunities for every child.
· Safeguarding children’s wellbeing – ensuring safeguarding, behaviour and attitudes and children’s mental health policies are effective in practice.
The governors are best described as a ‘critical friend’. The Headteacher has overall responsibility for the internal organisation, management and control of the school and for Stoke Prior First School that means creating an environment where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential: children, teaching and support staff. The Local Academy Governing Board is there to provide a framework which helps the Headteacher to deliver the aims and vision of the school and enables them to reach their potential through the right mix of support and challenge.
The Governing Board works together as a team:
• They meet in school 6 times a year.
• Full training is given.
• Governors have specific responsibilities – for example, Finance, Special Educational Needs or Health & Safety etc.
To have an informal chat about the role, please email Anne Eggins (aeggins@stokeprior.worcs.sch.uk) with your email address and mobile number and she will arrange for you to talk to our Chair of Governors. Alternatively, please complete the attached form and return it to Mrs Paisley
